Beautiful Woman

Sometimes it’s hard for me,

I’m Black and I’m Woman,

Sometimes it’s hard to breathe

Cause when you see me, no human,

They say it’s not only skin deep

But don’t see it in me,

Beautiful Woman

Sometimes it’s dark in here,

No light for no Woman

Whose colour like earth beneath your feet,

No love for no Woman

Whose body like ashes and bone,

Anger unknown,

Beautiful Woman

Sometimes I flinch at your touch,

You cast stones at Woman,

Show love with your fists and bruise

The ego of Woman,

Are there no shoulders to share

The burdens we bear,

Beautiful Woman

If I fall to my knees and pray

It was too much for Woman,

When a soul bleeds there’s pain,

There must be healing for Woman,

But while there is air in these lungs there’s fight,

From the darkness, she’ll find light,

Beautiful Woman

I see you.
